When working with a variagated yarn,I should stick to stockinette st. and not use a lacy/textured pattern?

I am in a quandry! I have no idea what pattern to use with this yarn for a beret.
It is variagated Bernat Camoflouge, and for the brim, is a sage green, solid color. The Camo is a pink/ sage green/ mauve variagated yarn. It goes well with the sage green yarn. Help !!!
My question is this: Use a textured pattern, or just a plain stockinette stitch for the beret pattern? Would the variagated yarn look well in a pattern, or better,plain? It is to be knit, not crocheted. ( just thought i'd throw that in :) ) Thanky kindly for all and any suggestions!

When using a variegated yarn, patterns sometimes don't show up very well. If being able to see the lacy pattern is important, use a plain yarn. If it is not important to you, you can use any pattern with the variegated yarn.
