Best books on learning about the Chinese, and Japanese cultures?
I picked up the book "The Japanese Have a Word for it" by Boye Lafayette De Mente, awhile back, but I have not yet gotten the chance to read it. Would that be a great book on Japanese culture, or is there a book better? Also, what would be a great book on Chinese culture? Also, if anyone has any book recommendations on Thai, Korean, and(or) Vietnamese cultures, that would be great aswell.
Thanks, and God, bless.
"Nineteen Ways of Looking at Wang Wei," Weinberger and Paz, is excellent re Chinese mind and poetry.
"Stay Alive, My Son," Pin Yathay, is excellent re Burmese experience.
"Eyes of the Tailless Animals," Soon Ok Lee, is excellent re North Korean experience.
"Expecting Adam," Martha Beck, Ph.D., is good (has some good pages), about Chinese and Japanese experiences.
