Dk Yarn

Can anyone out there in knitting land tell me what a good washable DK weight and worsted weight yarn is? You used the work "good" but not "cheap." What is your project? is it a baby project? Or a pair of socks? The reason I ask is that if it is socks, you'll want to have some acrylic in it. If it's a baby sweater, you'll want it to be soft. A good (but not cheap) DK yarn is Dale of Norway. I have worked with that, and it's nice--very nice. There are several types. Some are hand wash and some are machine wash. You can get these on the internet or at a local yarn store. Another nice DK is Lanett. I really liked that as well. I have worked with Lion Brand and Red Heart--the really affordable stuff you can get at Michaels or Walmart. It's ok, but it doesn't really hold up. Now, about worsted weight--I used to prefer Lion Brand Wool-ease. I have made socks, afghans, sweaters, etc with that yarn. It's got wool and acrylic in it, so it's warm but not itchy. Plus you can wash it. I think they've changed how they make it though, because it's not holding up the way it used to. Now I prefer Encore. It's more expensive though (but you can get good deals on ebay). If you're looking for wool, I have hated a yarn called Bartlett. It is very weak. I like Nature Spun, but I LOVE Casacade 220. The Cascade is more spendy, and I only get it when I have a gift certificate for my local yarn store. Have fun!
