 How do you combine knitted sections for a blanket? I began knitting earlier this year and I love it! So far I've been only knitting smaller pieces like scarves, pot holders, etc but now I've decided to work on my first big project. I was in the middle of knitting an extra wide scarf for myself, and I realized the soft wool would make a great blanket for my sister's birthday coming up. It's only a simple wide rib stitch, and I was wondering how could I go about converting it into a blanket? Should I knit all the sections separately and then combine them all at the end or is there a way I can simply make it wider with a different color? I know how to add new balls of yarn, but I wasn't sure if its possible to attach horizontally? Would love to hear any suggestions or patterns you think could help me out!! There are two methods to using panels in a blanket. Since you have already made your wide scarf, you can make several in different colours, and then sew them together using several different stitches for that seam. This is easier to do since you don't have the whole blanket in your hands... it can get too big and cumbersome! The other method is to knit it all in one piece, changing colours along the row. It's called Intarsia... look it up. It's very easy to do. But you need to know what your final design is because you can't change your mind later on. It's also very large and hard to handle. But for some designs that is what you have to do. |
