why is it that some cardigans have the silk/nylon strip of yarn running down the back of the button band.? why is it that some cardigans have the silk/nylon strip of yarn running down the back of the button band is their some perpose to it and would of any of you knitters know? It stops the button band stretching/pulling out of shape and should stop buttonholes gaping. Usually better quality knitwear (if it's bought) will have them

Aramid Yarns Used for Combat Uniform

Aramid yarns are the answer to the prayers of millions of military men and women involved in combat operations. Every time there is a risk of fabric caching fire. As we know though cotton, nylon, silk, wool may be the most popular fibers globally but it’s the not so popular aramid yarn which is a fantastic discovery for human civilization to protect bodies from getting burned. They are extremely highly resistant to fire up to 500 o C. Aramid yarns have thus been extensively used in the manufacture of combat apparels. Aramid yarns have low flammability which was discussed earlier. The reason for this property is that the aramid fibers have chain molecules which are highly oriented along the fiber axis, so the strength of the chemical bond can be exploited. Aramid yarns have good resistance to abrasion which in turn protects the inner skin from any injury. Another important aspect of aramid yarns is that they are absolutely nonconductive to electricity.

Aramid fibers are used in head protective gears like helmets. Ropes and cables are also produced using aramid fibers. Further they are used in most of sporting goods
